Convert L/100km (l100km) to km/L (kml) instantly. European fuel consumption conversion.
| Unit | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| kml | km/L (kmpl) | — |
| mpg_us | MPG (US) | — |
| mpg_uk | MPG (UK) | — |
| mpl | Miles per Litre | — |
Formula: km/L = 100 ÷ L/100km
Reverse: Reverse: L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L
Example (average car): 8 L/100km = 12.5 km/L
⚠ L/100km is inverse — lower = better fuel economy, higher = worse.

This is an inverse relationship — NOT multiplication!
5 L/100km = 20 km/L. 8 L/100km = 12.5 km/L. 10 L/100km = 10 km/L. 15 L/100km = 6.67 km/L.
A lower L/100km means better fuel economy — opposite to km/L.
Compares fuel economy across international vehicle specs — converting between MPG (US), MPG (UK), km/L, and L/100km.
Calculates fuel costs and sets efficiency targets using L/100km (Europe/Australia) or MPG (US/UK).
Converts between regional fuel economy standards when reviewing international vehicle launches.
Converts fuel economy specs of rental vehicles between familiar and local units.
Converts fuel efficiency data to calculate CO₂ emissions across vehicle fleets in different units.
Validates fuel efficiency test results across EPA (MPG US), WLTP (L/100km), and JC08 (km/L) cycles.
Liters per 100 kilometers (L/100km) is the standard fuel consumption unit in most of Europe, Australia, Canada, China, and many other countries. Unlike other units, a LOWER L/100km value means BETTER fuel economy — it measures consumption, not efficiency.
EU emissions regulations are linked to L/100km figures. A typical European compact car achieves 5–7 L/100km; an efficient diesel 4–5 L/100km; a large SUV 9–12 L/100km. The EU 2025 fleet-average CO₂ target (95 g/km) corresponds roughly to 4.1 L/100km for petrol.
Interesting fact: L/100km and km/L are mathematically inverse: L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L. This means improvements aren't linear — going from 20 to 10 L/100km doubles efficiency, but going from 10 to 5 L/100km doubles it again. Small improvements at high consumption have disproportionately large real-world impact.
Kilometers per liter (km/L) is the fuel efficiency unit standard in Japan, South Korea, India, and many other Asian and Latin American countries. A higher km/L value means better fuel economy — the vehicle travels further on the same amount of fuel.
Japanese automakers publish km/L ratings from the JC08 or WLTC test cycles. A fuel-efficient city car in Japan might achieve 25–35 km/L; a typical sedan 15–20 km/L; a large SUV 8–12 km/L. The 2024 Toyota Prius achieves ~32 km/L under JC08 testing.
Interesting fact: The world record for fuel efficiency in a production vehicle is held by the Volkswagen XL1 (2013), which achieved approximately 111 km/L (261 mpg US) under NEDC testing — a two-seater diesel-electric hybrid that weighed only 795 kg.
Fuel efficiency is measured differently across regions: km/L (Japan, India), L/100km (Europe, Australia, Canada), MPG US (USA), MPG UK (Britain). Converting between them is essential for international vehicle comparisons. Note: L/100km uses an inverse relationship — lower = better, and you cannot simply multiply to convert.
Formula: km/L = 100 ÷ L/100km. Reverse: L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L.
All conversions use exact gallon definitions: US gallon = 3.785411784 L; Imperial gallon = 4.54609 L.
