The Hungarian forint was introduced in 1946, replacing the hyperinflated pengő — Hungary's post-WWII hyperinflation was the worst ever recorded in history. Hungary joined the EU in 2004 but has not yet adopted the Euro.
Hungary experienced the highest inflation ever recorded — in July 1946, prices doubled every 15 hours. The forint replaced this with remarkable stability. Today HUF is sensitive to EUR movements and EU fund disbursements.

The Bulgarian lev ('lion') was introduced in 1880. After severe financial crisis in 1997, Bulgaria introduced a currency board pegging the lev first to the Deutschmark and then to the Euro. Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007.
